Dyeing with Dartmoor: Totnes Foundation Residency
The Dyeing with Dartmoor Collection was a culmination of a year long artist residency at Totnes Art & Design Foundation Course. After spending 4 years away at University studying, I was eager to explore my local landscape upon returning home. I documented the natural colours I extracted from native Dartmoor plants. I focused on two types of fern and gorse flowers to dye fabric with. I noted my recipes and fabric swatches in a book, available for preview at the exhibition in July 2021. I used fern and gorse flowers to naturally dye fabrics for two wall hangings, ‘Gorse’ and ‘Fern’. I also buried two tops on two different locations on Dartmoor for 2.5 months.
