These garments have been made from pressed ferns, hydrangea flowers, steel jump rings and waste shrink wrap plastic. Using a heat press technique, I have create a new plastic material which I hand cut and joined together to create a top and skirt.
A thought that often plays on my mind is ‘what if we treated cheap materials such as plastic and polyester with the same value and care as expensive materials such as gold and silver. Each take the Earth millions of years to produce yet the monetary value we have placed on materials changes our perception of such products.’
The outfit can be seen exhibited at Harbour House, Kingsbridge, Devon in May 2021.
